Narrowband UVB Light Therapy

Ultraviolet light B (UVB) therapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to effectively treat a number of skin disorders. UVB phototherapy traditionally referred to broadband UVB, which employs light from a range across the UVB spectrum.  This can improve the skin's appearance, but it also exposes the skin to the wavelengths that cause sunburn and increase the risk of developing skin cancer.Ultraviolet light B (UVB) therapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to effectively treat a number of skin disorders. UVB phototherapy traditionally referred to broadband UVB, which employs light from a range across the UVB spectrum.  This can improve the skin's appearance, but it also exposes the skin to the wavelengths that cause sunburn and increase the risk of developing skin cancer.

  • Psoriasis is a common, chronic skin condition that involves a rapid production of skin cells that build up on the surface of the skin and form scales, patches and other unwanted symptoms. This condition develops as a result of an autoimmune disorder, in which skin cells replace themselves every three to four days rather than every 30 days, creating a buildup of cells. Narrowband UVB therapy works to interrupt the abnormal cycle that has caused an increased production of skin cells in order to prevent future symptoms from appearing.

  • Eczema is a group of common skin conditions that affects up to one out of every ten people at some point in their lives.  Patients with eczema usually have itchy skin and red rashes on the skin that most often occur during "flare-ups."  Narrowband UVB therapy is effective in treating symptoms of eczema by exposing the skin to controlled amounts of light. This procedure is often performed in conjunction with medication to provide the longest-lasting relief from eczema symptoms.

  • Vitiligo is a skin condition in which pigment cells are destroyed and white patches of skin appear on different parts of the body. Hair growing in these areas may turn white as well. Vitiligo can affect any area of the skin, but is most common on the face, lips, hands, arms, legs and genital areas.  Narrowband UVB treatment can be used to stimulate pigment cells within the skin to produce more melanin and return the skin to its natural color as well as stop new patches from forming.

Excimer Laser

The excimer laser is an effective form of treatment for inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis. This advanced device offers patients a safe, successful and minimally invasive solution to the red, itchy skin caused by psoriasis flare-ups. The excimer laser delivers targeted beams of intense laser light to clear lesions and provide significant relief without damaging nearby healthy skin. Each excimer laser treatment session takes only a few minutes to perform in the doctor’s office, with no anesthesia needed. The laser energy can be precisely delivered to lesions nearly anywhere on the body, including previously hard-to-treat areas such as the elbows and knees. The results of the excimer laser treatment can last for six months or longer.

Elos™ IPL laser (skin rejuvenation)

The elos™ Plus laser system features the latest technological advances by incorporating both light energy and radio frequency energy in one device. This provides an effective, efficient treatment approach that offers a greater level of safety for patients with any skin type. Elos Plus successfully rejuvenates the skin, reversing the appearance of sun damage.  It will also even the skin tone by precisely targeting brown spots as well as reddened areas due to problems such as rosacea or spider veins.  The treatment causes little to no discomfort, with most patients experiencing just some tingling or a slight pinch. No sedation is needed, and elos Plus treatments are typically complete in 30 minutes. In addition, patients can return to work or their regular activities immediately after the procedure.

BLU-U® Light Therapy

BLU-U® light therapy is a treatment for skin conditions that uses a photosensitizing drug and a light source to activate it. BLU-U light therapy effectively destroys the abnormal cells that cause actinic keratosis, a common pre-cancerous condition characterized by rough, scaly lesions that are caused by sun damage over time. During the procedure, a topical photo sensitizer called Levulan® is applied to the skin and left for an incubation period that varies depending on the extent of the actinic keratoses being treated. Levulan is made of aminolevulinic acid (ALA), a natural substance found in the body. After incubation, the Levulan is activated by exposure to the narrow-band blue light waves emitted by the BLU-U light source. Patients may experience sensations of warmth, tingling or burning during this part of the treatment. After light activation, the treated area is washed and patients can return home, and most return to work within one to two days after the procedure.

Xeomin is a form of botulinum toxin type A that can be injected into the muscles just beneath the skin to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Particularly effective in treating deep frown lines between the eyebrows, Xeomin has received FDA approval.

Like other types of botulinum treatments, Xeomin prevents muscles from contracting. However, Xeomin is different from its predecessors in that it contains no additives, which may decrease a patient's antibody reaction. If the immune system is not creating antibodies to fight it, the treatment will be much more successful.

Results of Xeomin treatment are typically evident in one week and last between three and six months.
